Many people say it is never too late to do things. The same is true for a mid-life career change. You may be a home-based worker who chooses to do other things for a change, or an office employee who wants to get his dream job, or simply someone who needs less stress in life and wants instead a better work-life balance, and new challenges to take on, a mid-life career change is really never too late.

It would be important to know what field you would like to work in. You do this by first identifying the things you dislike most about your previous career and then identifying as well what you like most about it. You can start with this, and just add things you enjoy most or things that interest you. This way, you can move to a different field, but still do the things you love in your previous career. For instance, from being manager at a fast food chain, you can probably make a mid-life career change to become project manager in a charitable institution.

This way, you fulfill your interest and love for charitable work, while still honing your leadership and planning skills as a manager. What lifestyle would you want to have? Do you want a home-based career or an 8 to 5 job? Do you want to be able to manage your time, without your boss always nagging at you? These are just some of the important questions to ask yourself when you’ve decided to take on a mid-life career change.

In addition to finding out the field you would like to shift to, you should also identify your current skills because these are vital as well in making that mid-life career change. What can and can you not do? Are you proficient in communications, leadership, web design, software development, science or health? These are referred to as transferable skills, because no matter what field you are in, they can be very useful. You may also identify your talents and knowledge; you might be surprised to land your dream job because of these.

Knowing your interests and skills is not enough; you also need to have even just a little experience in your target job for a successful mid-life career change. You can do some sort of moonlighting, like volunteering for the company you plan to work for perhaps, or working in a part-time job that entails doing the same things as your target career. These are helpful not only in helping you decide if a mid-life career is really the right path to take, but also in giving plus points to your resume.

Changing careers also entails changes in modes of travel, if applicable. Of course, this is not a problem anymore when you shift to a home-based job because you work in the comforts of your home. In most mid-life career changes, however, there may be modifications not just in the site of work but also in the place you live in. Sometimes you need to move to a nearer area for convenience or, more commonly, you change your mode of travel, be it a daily commute by bus, car, train, or frequent air travels.

You also need to consider other variables, like your target salary and potential for career progression. It is a known fact that making a mid-life career change entails hard work and tough times, even doubts from other people. These should not stop you, though, because it is far better to have a career that you enjoy doing rather than forever working in a job where you feel dissatisfied and always stressed.

Have you ever thought about furthering your education? Are your financial commitments or your family situation one in which you need to continue working to maintain a pay check and benefits, thus being unable to attend a course full time? If you are interested in making advancements to your education or training, consider home training courses.

There are many benefits to home training courses, often times known as distance learning. With home training courses, you can take classes at your own pace. You do not have to take a full course load, and you can tailor the number of classes you take to fit into the current demands of your busy life. Because there are no classes to attend in person, you can study whenever and wherever is the most convenient for you. You need not worry about missing class because of a sick child or having to work late on a project.

Another benefit to home training courses is that you do not need to take a leave from your current job. You will continue to maintain your income along with your benefits and insurance, while you are participating in home training courses. In addition, because the home training courses will allow you to earn a higher degree or qualification, this could equate to a raise in your pay. The more qualifications and degrees that you have, the more likely you are to get an increase in pay grade and be eligible for advancements.

Home training courses may seem to some as a daunting task because of the lack of face-to-face contact. While any furthering of your education will require hard work and study time, you should make sure that the home training courses that you are interested in offer a well rounded support system. Even though you will be based at home for your training, you should still be able to have easy access to your professors, career guidance counsellors, and a student support system. Many students often find that they foster excellent relationships with other students in home training courses, more so than in a typical classroom.

If you are interested in home training courses, there are many different companies that you can look into. The majority of the time, the type of education that you are interested in will dictate which programs you should consider. Once you find a school and course, make sure to let your employer know. Many companies will reimburse their employees for educational expenses, especially if the classes will benefit the employee in relation to their current job role. Be sure to understand your employer’s education policy, as they can often include a clause which states you must remain at the company for a specific period of time if they pay for educational expenses. While this may not be a bad option, it is important for you to know and fully understand the policies.

If you are interested in furthering your education while maintaining your current job, consider home training courses. They offer you the flexibility that you need, while providing you with proper educational courses and training.

Working as a court reporter can be a rewarding job, but it isn’t for everyone. You need to know what the job entails and how to get there before you make your decision. The type and amount of training required depends on what sort of court reporter you wish to be.
These days, reporters have technology on their side and this makes everything considerably easier. With the ability to connect computers to stenograph machines, real time text feeds can be provided of courthouse events on laptops held by the attorneys. This also allows for more compact storage on discs or hard drives.

Education

In order to become an official court reporter, you will need to get your associate’s or bachelor’s degree. This can be done in 2-4 years, depending on the program. A court reporter certification is almost always necessary, as well. Each state has different laws as to what is required of a court reporter in the way of education, so be sure to find out what the requirements are in your area.

The courses required to become a court reporter will cover legal terminology, as well as training in the equipment that will be used in the courtroom. Court reporters will also learn the more common legal procedures and the types of court hearings that they might be asked to cover. Most reporters specialize in one of three types of reporting, steno typing, steno mask or electronic recording.

Steno Typing: This type of court reporting involves typing what is being said in the courtroom on a special machine that is designed to let the typist press more than one key at a time, recording information at a very rapid rate.

Steno Mask: The court reporter wears a special sound-proof mask that has a mic inside and repeats everything that goes on, spoken and unspoken, in the courtroom, along with notes for a transcriptionist to work from at a later date.

Electronic Recording: This is often used when a courtroom has poor acoustics and a court reporter cannot clearly hear everything that is going on. Instead, mics are placed and everything is digitally recorded to be transcribed later.

Ongoing education is essential in this career since the technology being used is always improving. Those reporters who stay on top of their training and take additional courses to pick up new certifications and learn new skills will be in higher demand.

What the Job Entails

While many court reporters are employed by an agency that will make all the arrangements and find clients, others find it beneficial to work as freelancers, finding their own clients on a per trial basis. This can often prove to be more lucrative, though the reporter will have to find all his or her own work.

A court reporter’s job is to record everything that goes on during a legal proceeding. This includes everything that anyone says, but often requires noting specific movements, such as turning in evidence, etc. in addition to spoken words.

Depending on the technology being used, the report may be instantly transcribed via computer into a text stream that can be read by the attorneys or it may be transcribed later by a human. These transcriptions are kept as records of court proceedings, so it is vital that they are done quickly and accurately.

Working as a court reporter requires some education and a willingness to stay up to date on your skills. There is a big demand for quality court reporters and no shortage of jobs, since the courts stay pretty busy in most areas, making this a great career to get into.

A lot of things are known to most people now because of this hunger for knowledge and there is no such thing as enough of it.

This notion of the stock market makes people think that it will be so hard to move around this world. They would not dare to try getting into this. Ignorance is not an excuse in here, not at all. You should be positive that there is no such thing as undecipherable, you can of course understand the ways of the market if you have the background, if you know the strategies, if you understand trends and if you know which techniques would be best to use. Article Title: CNA Careers: A Day in the Life of a CNA in the Acute Care Setting
Author: Jeff Morrow
Category: Career
Word Count: 549
Keywords: Certified Nursing Assistant, CNA, CNA Jobs, CNA schools, CNA Careers, Certified Nursing Assista

—————— ARTICLE START ——————

In a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) job, a CNA will start an eight hour shift at 7 am, 3 pm, or 11 pm. The twelve hour assistant usually starts at 6am or 7am for day shirts, and 6pm or 7pm for the night shift. The responsibilities for each shift may differ, but most tasks are the same regardless of the shift you work.

The day shift assistants start by receiving an assignment and report on the patients in their care. In some institutions, the report is a fellow CNA, but in other facilities, they may sit in on the overall nursing report.

When reporting is completed, the first responsibility usually involves taking the vital signs on the assigned patients and assisting clients with breakfast. Both of these responsibilities involve direct patient contact and documentation. The vital signs need to be recorded, regardless of the practice of your institution. Some facilities allow the CNA to document directly in the chart or in the computer chart, and some just want it written on a flow sheet for the nurse to transcribe. The intake and output sheet for a patient can be taped to the bathroom door, the patient room, or in the chart. This is where the assistant will record what the patient drank for breakfast and how much the patient ate.

In the acute care setting, linens are changed every day. The CNA is responsible for assisting the patient with a bath, shaving, oral care, and changing the bed. Any assistance needed to use the bathroom or bedpan, ambulating, or being taken in a wheelchair for x-rays during the course of the shift falls to the CNA.

Nurses give the medications, treatments, and conduct full assessments. Nurses may also assist the CNA with turning and positioning patients or transferring the patient to a chair.
Other CNA Job Responsibilities

Other tasks the certified nursing assistant is responsible for during the course of the day in an acute care setting are as follows:

* Answering the patient call lights
* Providing each patient with fresh ice water and glasses
* Delivering freshly washed clothes and towels if needed
* Assisting the nurses with errands or bringing equipment
* Picking up dirty eating trays when breakfast or lunch is finished
* May be asked to feed patients who are not able to feed themselves
* May be asked to collect urine or stool samples from a collection pan when the patient voids or stools
* May be asked to change diapers of pediatric patients or incontinent adult patients
* May need to change linen more than once if a patient has vomited, bled, or soiled the linens throughout the shift

The shift for a certified nursing assistant goes quickly, and the activities are centered on patient care and assisting the nurses during the shift. CNAs do not answer the phone, take physician orders, or do patient treatments or dressing changes. Their role is non-technical, yet hands on. It is one of the most important parts of direct patient care in the overall hospital stay. Most CNAs find providing direct patient care can also be the most satisfying part of the job.
